Lauchlan and Charlotte Maclean-Bristol are the owners of White House Lodge. They are based by the coast in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, but try to spend as much time on the Isle of Coll as possible. They have three children, Hector, Hettie and Verity.
Lauchlan was brought up on the island and lived there until he moved to the mainland at the age of 25. His parents bought the ruined family castle (Breacachadh) on the Island in the 1950s and renovated it over a 25 year period, still living there today.
Both Lauchlan’s brothers moved away from the island at similar ages but both have been lured back by the call of the island. Charlie is converted the Round House into his holiday retreat, and Alex has refurbished the grade 2 listed White House into his family home.
White House Lodge was a derelict property on Lauchlan’s parent’s farm, that Lauchlan persuaded them to gift it to him at the same time as brother Alex took over the family farm. It was Charlotte, Lauchlan’s wife who pointed out to him in 2004 that either we converted White House Lodge now, or it would never be done. The rest, as they say, is history!
